Rosemary trained as a Primary school teacher, teaching in Nottingham and Worcester before taking up a post on the Isle of Scilly. It was here she met Derek, who became her husband. Moving back to the mainland Derek opened a military-antiques shop in Penzance - the couple bought a cottage in Mousehole, and Rosemary did supply teaching in the area.
From their cottage, whose garden boundary was part of the seawall, they could see the Mount’s bay stretching before them, with St Michael’s Mount in the distance and St Clement’s Isle directly below them.
All this inspired Rosemary to produce the story and Derek the illustrations.
Health problems caused Rosemary and Derek to leave Cornwall, dividing their time between Florida and Worcestershire.
They eventually settled in Scotland, where Derek died after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Now Rosemary still comes back from time to time to Cornwall to visit places that will forever be dear to her heart.
